What is Yasmin Birth Control?
Yasmin birth control is a contraceptive pill introduced in 2001 designed to prevent pregnancy. It is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare pharmaceuticals. The Drug is made up of three ingredients drospirenone, progestin and Oestradiol. Yasmin is an oral contraceptive and is one of the most popular drugs in the United States.

What is Yasmin used for?
Yasmin Birth Control is a contraceptive pill that prevents ovulation and causes changes in the mucus of the cervix that makes it difficult for the sperm to penetrate into the uterus. Yasmin is also used to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder like anxiety, depression, irritability, weight gain, headache and others. Yasmin birth control is also used to treat acne in women and teenagers provided that they have a regular menstrual cycle. The drug is also very effective for women with painful and/or irregular periods. Due to the effectiveness of Yasmin birth control and the claimed benefits it brings, it is quite popular.

Yasmin and Interactions With Other Drugs
Drugs or other herbal products that induce certain enzymes, for example Cytochrome reduce the effectiveness of Yasmin birth control contraceptives. These include Phenytoin, Topiramate and others. Interactions between such oral contraceptives and other herbal products may lead to bleeding or contraceptive failure. In order to ensure that the use of herbal products does not hinder the effectiveness of Yasmin birth control, it is essential to continue back-up contraception for at least 28 days after discontinuing the enzyme inducing herbal product.

Side Effects Associated With Yasmin Birth Control.
Due to the claimed benefits, more and more people are now using the drug and therefore complaints about side effects resulting from these drugs have increased as well. Some of the most notable side effects are nausea, weight gain, headache, vomiting, anxiety and depression. These are some of the side effects common to all sorts of contraceptives.

Other more serious and relatively dangerous side effects include stroke, heart attack, blood clotting, kidney problems, high blood pressure hepatitis, and liver cancer. These aren’t very common side effects resulting from Yasmin birth control but the possibility is still there due to excessive usage of the drug.

People who smoke or have a blood clot disorder are prone to develop the serious side effects mentioned above. The most serious of all being blood clotting in the vessels which blocks the blood flow. Blood clots can be fatal in one of the three ways; they can either shoot straight to the heart and cause a heart attack, may trigger a stroke or travel to the lungs and cause breath problem or may even effect your breathing severely.

Yasmin birth control by Bayer has been subject to many personal and fatal injuries. There are now over 12,000 lawsuits against Bayer healthcare pharmaceuticals in the US on behalf of the people who suffered as a result of the usage of the drug. 23 Canadian women have died as a result of the contraceptives, many demanding the recall of the product.
